Who is NICS?
The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) comprises nine Departments that support the Northern Ireland Executive and Ministers. We do this by developing and implementing government policies and legislation and delivering key public services in areas such as health, public finances, social development, justice, education, regeneration, environment, culture, agriculture, economic development, employment, and transport.
In addition, the Public Prosecution Service is staffed by civil servants.
You can find more information on the five Departments recruiting as part of this competition by clicking on the relevant links below.
Department of Finance (Land & Property Services)
Managing land registration, valuation, and property tax.
Department for Communities
Supporting benefits, pensions, housing, and employment services.
Department of Education
Ensuring teachers are paid and pensions are managed accurately.
Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA)
Supporting sustainable farming, climate goals, and rural communities.
Administrative Officer (AO) roles are key positions, many of which involve working on the front line, delivering public services to our customers.
The specific duties you undertake will vary depending on which NICS Department you are posted to. You will be expected to deliver services using modern technology. Administrative Officers, particularly those in customer facing roles, must be able to cope with pressures faced in a busy front line work environment. You will need to be a good communicator, a good team player and be able to work accurately, while managing your time efficiently.
Please note that we're currently recruiting for the Northwest Region only and competitions for other regions will be advertised in due course.
